Exchange Visitor Program
J-1 Internship & Training
The J-1 Exchange Visitor Internship and Training program allows international students and young professionals to gain structured, hands-on experience at U.S. companies. Programs range from 12 to 18 months and cover a wide range of professional fields.
Eligibility Requirements
- Currently enrolled in or recently graduated from a post-secondary institution outside the U.S.
- Relevant academic background or professional experience in the intended training field
- English proficiency sufficient for workplace communication
- Ability to commit to a 12–18 month program in the United States

For Current F-1 Students
CPT Internships
Curricular Practical Training (CPT) allows F-1 students currently enrolled at a U.S. university to participate in internships directly related to their field of study. CPT must be authorized by the student's school and integrated into their academic program.
Who Qualifies
- Currently enrolled in a U.S. university with F-1 visa status
- Internship must be directly related to the student's major field of study
- Authorization from the school's Designated School Official (DSO)
- Must have been enrolled full-time for at least one academic year (some exceptions apply)
Post-Graduation Pathways
OPT Career Opportunities
Optional Practical Training (OPT) allows F-1 students to work in the U.S. for up to 12 months after completing their degree. STEM degree holders may apply for a 24-month extension, for a total of 36 months of work authorization.
Eligibility
- Completed a degree at a U.S. institution with F-1 visa status
- Employment must be directly related to the student's field of study
- Applied for OPT through USCIS before the end of the 60-day grace period
- STEM OPT extension requires employment at an E-Verify enrolled company
